Our church is privileged to have very close relationships with several missionaries across the world. Some, like the Dickson and Williams families, served in this church where you are now and have left this church as their home church and were sent out to do work the Lord has called them to do. We have been blessed to see how our missionaries have started new works in foreign countries and at home and have labored for our Lord, encouraged with our support and prayers. We encourage all our church family to make missions a daily part of their personal/family devotions and prayers and find ways to get involved in their lives. Our newsletter is an effort to help us all to be involved in the lives of the godly missionaries who have come to be called our friends and fellow workers in Christ. May this written reminder serve especially to motivate us to pray for them. It may also give us reason to write them letters, send special offerings or care packages, or even go be with them on a short term mission trip. Relationships all come with responsibilities. Let us be found doing ours as we continue this precious relationship with missionaries across the world. |

Richard and Rebecca met while she was a freshman at Bob Jones University and he a senior at Bob Jones Academy. Both made professions of faith at young ages and the Lord allowed the two of them to mature in the Christian faith together while dating. While Rebecca pursued a degree in Financial Management her heart's desire has always been to be the best mom God would have her to be. Richard's love for the Christian school movement began to grow after the interest and influence of godly teachers allowed him to see Christianity as genuine. After studying for the ministry and graduating from Bob Jones University his desire was to serve indefinitely in the Christian school movement although the Lord had other plans. He taught, coached and counseled for two years in Plymouth, Indiana before taking a Principal position in Terre Haute, Indiana. While serving as the Principal and on the Pastoral staff of Bible Baptist Church, he started a young married Sunday School class, led a men's missions trip to Thompson, Manitoba and was instrumental in building up the physical plant of the school allowing it to go forward with a quality academic program through the building of a state of the art science and computer labs. However the Lord has been giving him a deeper desire and calling to evangelism. The turning point was being on the mission field in Canada and seeing the tremendous need of the "harvest." Richard and Rebecca have been married for seven years and have four children; Alex, Jeffrey, Megan, and Cody. |

The land of tulips, windmills, and wooden shoes is commonly known as one of the most liberal countries in the world today. The Netherlands has legalized euthanasia, gay marriages and prostitution. Drugs are not legal, but small quantities of soft drugs, such as marijuana, are tolerated. The Netherlands is only 5% evangelical and the province of North Holland contains some of the most unreached portions of the country. God has placed a passion in the Chapman’s hearts for reaching the people of Holland. On August 29, 2002, they joined a church-planting team with Greater Europe Mission in Alkmaar, Holland. The church that has been started there is a Dutch-speaking cell church with an English-speaking component. There is a desire to start churches in the surrounding communities, as well as separate international English-speaking and youth congregations. Their ministry includes: providing administrative support for the church multiplication efforts; assisting the Benelux (Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg) Field Leader and the Northern Europe Area Director; ministering initially to the English speaking people in North Holland and the Dutch speaking people as their language skills develop; and assisting in the operation of Cell Church Ministries, a center which assists others who desire to establish cell churches in the Netherlands. |

The foundation has been laid for three permanent classroom blocks at the school, and the walls are about to go up. Monetary gifts can go a long was in Ghana, and our financial support is much needed. The Duah's have four children: Audrey, Desmond, Alex, Aletha About the size of Pennsylvania, Ghana has a population of about 20 million people. There are about 50 tribes and about 200 languages and dialects spoken in Ghana. English has been adopted as the language most used in schools and in the workplace. Ghana has three main religions, the West African Church, Islam, and Christianity (primarily Catholic). |

Ironwood is a home missions ministry using the unique aspects of the camping ministry to reach young people for the Lord Jesus Christ, strengthen families, and serve local churches. It is a place of decision in the areas of salvation, full surrender, and consistent Christian walk. The majority of unsaved young people who attend Ironwood will accept the Lord as their Savior before they leave. Sixty percent or more of those in full-time service for the Lord today made their decision to surrender to the Lord while at a youth camp or retreat meeting. Two-thirds or more of young people who come to Ironwood each week make some type of decision that becomes a stepping stone to spiritual growth in their lives. |

The Lord has led Paul and April Lawrence to be church-planting missionaries in Romania. They are excited about what the Lord is doing in their lives and the great adventure He has planned for them. Currently they are raising support for their ministry in Romania. Their burden is to go and share the message of salvation with the Romanian people. The Lawrences partner with Robin and Sally Burnett, who have been in Romania for the past eleven years. They have two church-plants in and around Târgovisti. Paul and April are thankful that they will be able to "learn the ropes" with someone with so much experience. The effects of a tragic past lie heavily upon Romania. The moral vacuum left by Ceausescu’s Communists has been replaced by every kind of social evil. Substance abuse, prostitution, and violent crime are all on the increase. Romania has one of the highest abortion rates in the world. Freedom has brought wealth for a few but oppressing poverty for most. Although the majority of Romania's 22.3 million citizens are Eastern Orthodox (87%), the country has Europe’s third highest population of Evangelicals (6.3%). But the number of evangelical believers has not grown substantially since 1990. The government, at the urging of some Orthodox leaders, has set tight restrictions for the registration and activity of other religious groups. Millions of Romanians have grown up as “Christians,” but with no meaningful exposure to the gospel — only about 3% of Orthodox believers take their faith very seriously. |

For 15 years Ken and Carol worked with a tribal group in Colombia, South America and helped some 15 village churches get started. They helped train Latin American believers in New Tribes Mission (NTM) who today are carrying on the bulk of the tribal work there as well as spreading out to other South American countries. Ken and Carol met in NTM training and eventually married before actually being fully accepted as missionaries. Their entire married life of over 38 yrs has been spent in mission activity with NTM. |

Ken and Carol work in the Home office in Florida, helping prepare mission teams who will serve all around the world. Carol is the Assistant coordinator of the SUMMIT Interface teams, medical advisor-coordinator for all teams, and ad-hoc medical advisor for many NTM missionaries around the world. NTM coordinates missionaries, sent by local churches, to take the Gospel to tribal people. Missionaries then plant churches. They disciple believers, translate the Scriptures, and train teachers and leaders, who in turn reach out to their own people and to neighboring tribes. NTM’s mission is steadfast: to reach new tribes, people who have never had a single opportunity to hear the Good News. Of the earth’s 7,000 ethnic groups, 3,000 are still unreached. Their vision is for every tribe to have the opportunity to hear and respond to the Gospel. That was their vision for their ministry when NTM was founded in 1942, and it is their vision today. |

After 51 years, Neighborhood Bible Time is still fulfilling the Great Commission. Their vision is to reach the whole world with the truth of the Gospel. As NBT continues to grow, director Larry Koontz is seeking to increase NBT’s financial base. Their immediate vision is to update worn materials and evangelist training tools, to begin a new training program for high school seniors, to complete the move from Boulder to Illinois, and to conduct 4 regional NBT training seminars for their 2004 churches. Their three-year vision is to increase the number of crusades in the U.S. through local churches, to increase international crusades through short-term mission trips, to provide teen crusades year round, and to establish a home for troubled boys. |

The Rhoads went to Papua New Guinea (PNG) in 1995 and returned as full time career missionaries. It is their desire to spread the gospel message to the people of PNG. David's primary job is the maintenance responsibilities at the Goroka Baptist Bible College, established by ABWE missionaries to give Christian nationals a thorough bible education so they would be able to take the good news of eternal life to the people of their country. They understand that this ministry is somewhat "behind the scenes," but it is also very necessary. But just as important, David and Dennise have finished their language studies and are starting the youth ministries that they went there to do. They have plans for starting an AWANA program at the campus church (Kism Bek Baptis). There are countless opportunities to have youth groups, Bible studies, and Sunday school classes for all age groups. It has been estimated that 85% of the people who accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior are under the age of 15. They both feel that this is where they can best be used by God. They are both looking forward to the opportunities that God has provided for them in PNG. David and Dennise have three daughters: Megan, Kara, and Rachel. |

Bob and Lynne have served as missionaries since June, 1974. They have been instrumental in helping to establish several churches in the Bogotá area. Bob is ABWE's Administrator for Spanish Speaking South America and Lynne is a great support to the work through women and children’s programs. Bob has played a part in establishing a seminary and university in the area. The Baptist International University currently averages around 40 students, most of which come from local churches. Additionally, the Trouts are currently serving in the development of the Bogotá Baptist Camp and Conference Center. This facility is intended to provide a resource to the local churches and groups. Already in operation, the BBCC hopes to add a dining commons, additional cabins, and a multipurpose building in the near future. Bob and Lynne have three grown children. Their daughter Beth and son-in-law Geoff Williams have served with them on the field in Bogotá. Bogotá is the capital of Colombia with a population of over 6 million people. 90% of the people practice Roman Catholicism, although freedom of religion is permitted. The national language is Spanish. The people of Colombia live a much more slow-paced life than we do. This country is known as the most violent country in the world due to the drugs, warlords, and frequent kidnappings that occur there. It has been estimated that 80% of the cocaine in the world comes out of Colombia. Security is always an issue. |
